PARK VILLAGE COMMUNITY SPACE

***WINNING COMPETITION ENTRY***
The Park Village Community Space lies at the junction where the Park Lane meets the Cannock Road, on the boundary between Old and New Park Village. It runs along the side and in front of the astro turf footbal pitch, next to the community centre.
A growing space frames the front of the scheme, and welcomes visitors into this 'green', environment, with fruit trees standing as emblems of growth.
behind the trees are wheelchair-friendly planters, that are designed in such a way that both disabled visitors and children can enjoy the growing and cultivating experience.
moving further into the site, we come to a child's outdoor play area, made up of a willow tunnel, recycled tyre-jump area, and hopscotch markings, with a sheltered relaxation area for parents/guardians to watch their children and socialise - evoking togetherness and multi-generational socialisation.
behind this area lies a colourful calisthenics (own body-weight) exercise space, encouraging fitness and well-being.
at the very rear of the site, lies two prayer booths, one for each gender, strategically placed farthest away from the main road, so that the other phases of the scheme act as a buffer zone for this phase.
The prayer spaces have a corten-steel clad water channel running down their centre, symbolising timelessness and reverence, and giving this phase an almost ceremonial aesthetic.
